What Can Poetry Fit Offer You?
The Get Fit Class is a perfect option for those hitting middle age and seeking an opportunity to strengthen, stretch, and improve balance. Classes begin with a number of healthy stretches and warmups followed by series work to increase the cardio/heart rate. Iron yoga, holding positions with hand weights, improves strength, particularly through the upper body. Our balance relies on muscle strength, proprioceptors, vision, and semi-circular canal functioning--all which change with age. The Get Fit Class helps restore better balance and agility.
Straps, weights, mats included or you can bring your own. Modifications provided if needed.
Each class ends in relaxation with instrumental music,
leaving you with a sense of fitness and refreshment.
Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
If you seek an opportunity to unwind, relax, and stretch tight muscles, then this Restorative Class is for you.
A variety of stretches and supported stretches (with provided cushions) allow the body to "relax and adjust" for longer periods. At least one balancing position is included in the session.
Our lives are replete with one task after another without offering an opportunity to stop. What may appear to be an easy class is often challenging to those who have forgotten how to be calm, stretch, and release. Ease tired and tight muscles and connective tissues while giving yourself permission to unwind.
Learn to do so in this calm and healthy class with
inspiring instrumental music and Scripture.
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
comes from the mouth of God." Matt 4:4.
On selected Fridays enjoy stretching and strengthening fitness on the mat with “Floorwork Fridays.” Learn how gains can be made without standing work. This special session ends with restorative Legs up the Wall with calming music…leaving you refreshed, rested, and ready to start your weekend.

Poetry Fit is taught by Dr. Anne Horan (EdD, JD, MS, R-YFMT 500, R-HYI) who enjoys integrating her stress management background with her focus on fitness into planning her classes. In 1982, she chose yoga as a college P.E. credit as a good complement to body building at the time. This college class led to a life-long fitness practice--through pregnancies, a car accident, a law and municipal judge career, marriage and parenting, founding and administering
a private PK-12 Christian school, and more.
She began teaching yoga in Rockwall and Rowlett health clubs in 1999
and has not stopped since. Anne holds three graduate degrees, including a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology from the UTSW Biomedical Sciences Department and is a published researcher, including a Stress Management Workplace Intervention Study. She remains abreast of nutrition and healthy lifestyles research.
As a Christian, she recognizes the amazing benefits a variety of fitness options including yoga, Pilates, athletic drills, weight bearing exercises, and active release techniques but does not subscribe to eastern philosophies. Poetry Fit classes are a way to care for our bodies as a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), she reminds her classes. Session adjourn with: Peace be with you (John 20:21).
She is a Masters Level Trainer (R-YFMT 500 - 500 Hour Master Certification + Level One Yoga Therapy Certification) with the international YogaFaith organization (Christian Yoga Teacher Training - YogaFaith).
#JesusFirstYogaSecond #ChristianYoga.
She is a member of the Christian Yoga Association with her original R-YT from Holy Yoga, She is also trained in HY Touch Yoga and Pediatric Yoga. She integrates physical therapy and weight lifting modalities derived from yoga, athletics warm-ups, and some Pilates techniques that are beneficial to her students.
Her prior experience includes teaching yoga classes to teens for P.E. credits, club track teams, college track teams, senior citizens, pediatric and special needs groups, and mixed classes. Her book, "Before Babies and Beyond: Stress Management and Yoga for Women of All Stages and Ages," is pending publication.
